Senior military officials from Japan and Western nations were there, but no American reps crashed the party, officially making the world’s mightiest eagle just a spectator in its own backyard. Meanwhile, allies probably had to ask, 'Is the eagle napping or just practicing stealth?' Back in my day, America's absence would have sparked headlines bigger than Fourth of July fireworks, but now we play peekaboo at defense conferences. Only in America could 'leading from behind' become military strategy!
