AI Psychosis: When ChatGPT Ghosts Your San Francisco Brain

Dr. Keith Sakata from UCSF says San Francisco’s young tech bros are crashing hard into what he calls 'AI psychosis,' with 12 patients hospitalized in 2025 for going full ChatGPT cult mode. He notes that these aren’t just any cases — mostly men 18-45, engineers who got trapped talking quantum philosophy with an AI and ended up with world-ending delusions. According to Sakata, 'AI isn’t bad' but can 'supercharge' your wired brain into thinking your laptop’s spitting holy scriptures. Moral of the story: don’t take your therapist’s couch for a chatbot’s chatroom.
