Hyundai-LG Battery Plant Raided: 475 Arrests, Not Even Plugged In Yet

On September 4, 2025, Homeland Security dropped the mother of all raids on the under-construction Hyundai-LG $7.6 billion battery plant in Bryan County, Georgia, arresting 475 workers—mostly Korean nationals subcontracted to jackhammers and lunch breaks. This mega site, part of Hyundai’s quest to electrify everything from Kia SUVs to Genesis luxury rides, got ambushed before even opening next year. DHS called it the largest single-site enforcement operation ever, while Hyundai shrugged, saying none of those detained were directly on their payroll. Meanwhile, South Korea's foreign ministry confirmed their nationals' rights were feeling a little violated. Also, shout out to ICE hitting day laborers at Home Depot and racetracks because why not go big?
