61-Year-Old Quits Marketing To Lift Gurneys, Not Spirits

Stephen Condon, at 61, swapped a tech marketing career boasting over $200k salaries for an EMT gig paying $18.25/hour. After 'languishing' in marketing with no clear goal, he described EMT school as 'low-risk' amidst a classroom of 20-year-olds. Now, he enjoys four-night shifts that improved his health and promised 'it’s never boring,' juggling 200 to 300-pound gurneys and saving lives. Though benefits were a motive for the pivot—so his wife can retire—Stephen claims, 'If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.' We’re all terrible drivers of our own lives.
