Burgess Heberer, a Santa Claus, Indiana scientist-turned-pressure-washer, swapped lab coats for squeegees five years ago, refusing a salary until hitting $1 million revenue. Heberer explains, 'I still donāt take a weekly paycheck,' but thanks to his wifeās teaching job and a $10,000 grant, they turned exterior cleaning into a $630k-a-year dad-and-daughter morning drop-off business. They now manage seven full-timers, college students, and semi-retired help, scrubbing driveways, windows, and fortune-sized houses, proving that sometimes the corporate ladder just isnāt as slippery as a freshly cleaned driveway.
