The North Carolina governor, apparently tired of polite warnings, declared a state of emergency for Hurricane Erin, which boasts a 'large hurricane' status with winds extending 80 miles wide. Though Erin isn't expected to make U.S. landfall, it’s set to gift the East Coast with 'life-threatening storm surges' and a bonus beach ban from N.C. to New York, ensuring no beach day will be ruined by mere sun. The NHC reported storm surges up to 4 feet, and beaches from Florida to New England face rip currents because, why not add a little chaos to summer?
