Data Centers, Solar Panels & Nukes: Democrats’ Electric Rodeo

After snagging Virginia and New Jersey governorships, Democrats Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill promise to tame the wild beast called electricity bills — a phrase voters apparently whispered in their sleep. Spanberger’s Affordable Virginia plan is basically her telling hundreds of data centers around Richmond to pay their fair share—because apparently, Big Tech draining power like a frat house’s keg tosses is a problem. She also dreams of rooftop solar with battery storage, because who doesn’t want their grid powered by laptop-charger-sized sun collectors? Meanwhile, Sherrill declared an emergency on utility costs before her morning coffee, freezing rates and planning fresh nukes in Salem County. She’s buddying up with neighbors to build reactors cheaply, imparting a power-hungry Avengers vibe. Both blasted PJM, the grid’s sugar daddy, for preferring coal and oil. Trump tweeted that if you vote GOP, energy bills will drop, throwing shade like a 4th grader behind the bleachers. Even NYC’s new mayor Zohran Mamdani quietly opposed a natural gas pipeline and thinks public transit is climate’s BeyoncĂ©. Georgia’s Public Service Commission saw Democrats Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard boot Republicans, pledging sunny renewables and shady deal spotlights. Politics 2026: where power means more than who controls the remote. 36% of Americans stress over electricity bills, which is suspiciously higher than my stress about assembling IKEA furniture on a Sunday.
