In what sounds like "ethics meets a thrift shop showdown," Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was found to have underpaid for her 2021 Met Gala outfit and must now cough up $2,733 plus $250 for her fiancé's ticket—because apparently being fashionably late to ethics compliance isn't a thing. The bipartisan committee cited that her conduct 'was inconsistent with House Rules,' although they admitted she didn't do it 'knowingly and willfully.' So basically, if you direct vendors to 'keep costs down' but forget to check the ethics rulebook, you still ‘bear ultimate responsibility.’
