His centrist crew, including Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), tried to replace the GOP’s party-crasher bill but got stonewalled faster than free snacks at a budget meeting. Meanwhile, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) eloquently declared the bill ‘lipstick on a pig’–or a voter suppression makeover. Even retiring Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) promised to muddle through the mess, while lone SAVE supporter Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) hovered in mysterious silence. Socialism? Sure. Illinois-style political sabotage embedded in symbolism? Absolutely.
