Trump’s Capital Takeover: National Guard or Neighborhood Watch?
In a bold move worthy of a reality show season finale, Republican governors from South Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio are sending hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., at President Trump's behest. South Carolina's Gov. Henry McMaster said 200 troops are on the way, while West Virginia pledges 300 to 400, and Ohio chips in 150 military police. Governor Patrick Morrisey declared, 'West Virginia is proud to stand with President Trump in his effort to restore pride and beauty to our nation's capital,' even as crime rates trend down. Meanwhile, Pentagon's Pete Hegseth promises troops 'won't do law enforcement but will have their backs' if the DC police disappear. The president insists this is all about 'taking our Capital back'—because nothing says public service like a federal takeover with 1,100 extra troops for a city with falling crime.
