In a plot twist straight out of a horror travel brochure, Maryland had its first human reunion with the New World screwworm parasite after a visitor returned from El Salvador. According to HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon, this is 'the first human case of travel-associated New World screwworm myiasis in the United States,' but hey, officials say the public risk is 'very low.' The CDC confirmed the horror through 'telediagnosis,' proving even maggot invasions can be diagnosed via Zoom. Meanwhile, the USDA is still busy breeding billions of sterilized flies to airdrop on southern borders, fighting what they call a 'flesh-eating maggot pandemic' that spooked Mexican ranchers enough to make the Trump administration upgrade prevention efforts.
