Hate Crimes Fashionably High â Theyâre Just Trending, Right?
The FBI's latest numbers show hate crimes barely budged in 2024 with 11,679 cases reported, just a whisker below 2023's record-high 11,862. Apparently, hate is the party that never ends, with Black Americans, Jewish Americans, and LGBTQ+ folks still on the guest list no one wanted. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt mournfully reminds us, 'We're facing a crisis of hate and extremism that threatens all of us.' Meanwhile, over 16,000 agencies cover 95.1% of the U.S., but still, advocates fear many crimes are ghosted and go unreported. Congress might try to stop the hate train with the bipartisan Improving Reporting to Prevent Hate Actâbecause apparently, hate loves bad PR.
