4kg Explosives Fail Spectacularly, Pipeline and Russia Both Disappointed
KEY POINTS
- •Serbia’s military security agency found 4kg of explosives last week in Kanjiža near the Balkan Stream pipeline.
- •Former Ukrainian major general Djuro Jovanic stated that the amount was insufficient to seriously damage the pipeline.
- •Experts suggest the explosives were likely a failed Russian intelligence attempt to influence Hungary’s upcoming election.
Last week in the sleepy Serbian town of Kanjiža, 4 kilograms of explosives were discovered — roughly the weight of a medium watermelon, or the amount a toddler might sneak into a backpack. Former Ukrainian Major General and munitions whiz Djuro Jovanic calculated this feeble payload couldn't even scratch the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, hilariously crushing what some were calling a "Russian intelligence plot" to meddle in Hungary's upcoming elections. Serbia’s military security agency played bomb squad bingo, recovering these crumbs which are about as threatening as a toddler’s temper tantrum next to Europe’s crucial gas conduits. Russia’s subtlety levels here rank just below a semi-glued dossier, proving some intelligence plots really are just bad budget stunts.
