From Roses to Stone Patios: Trumpâs Lawn Makeover Disaster
The White House Rose Gardenâs saga starts in 1902 with Edith Rooseveltâs humble Johnny jump-ups and wild daisies, graduates through Ellen Wilsonâs 1913 formal rose-themed facelift designed by George Burnap and Beatrix Farrand, only to peak in 1961 when Rachel Lambert Mellon threw in crab apples, magnolias borrowed from a posh NYC mansion, and enough perennial flair to make a florist weep. Fast forward to Nixonâs 1971 daughter Triciaâs outdoor nuptials that upgraded White House weddings from 'meh' to âevent planners recommend.â Presidents have casually fed squirrels amid acorns since 1983, probably lobbying for a brownie point. Then 2020 Trump casually dusts all that French garden panache into a stone tile patio to play tick-tock with lawn aesthetics. Weâre all terrible drivers of our own livesâand lawns.
