KEY POINTS
- •ININ Games announced a physical version of R-Type Dimensions III for Nintendo Switch 2 based on alleged new cartridge sizes.
- •Later the same day, ININ Games retracted this claim citing no official announcement or confirmation from Nintendo.
- •Physical games on Switch 2 remain controversial, with full physical releases costly and game-key cards lacking actual game data.
On Friday, ININ Games–the retro game publisher who probably knows more about cartridges than your average Gen Z kid–claimed to recalc their production plans for a physical R-Type Dimensions III on the Switch 2 because of Nintendo's 'announcement' of two new smaller cartridge sizes. Spoiler alert: there was no official announcement, just the company’s overenthusiastic 'Monday afternoon fever.' ININ quickly yanked the claim and posted a correction. Meanwhile, the longstanding debate over Switch 2 physical games rages on with full physical games being wallet-busters for devs and game-key cards that carry less actual game than a soggy bread crust.
