Self-Deporting: DHS’s Friendly Suggestion to Illegal Guests

In a masterclass of ‘helpfulness,’ DHS assistant press secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, 'DACA does not confer any form of legal status in this country,' before encouraging 'every person here illegally' to self-deport. It’s less a policy and more a polite eviction note with extra sarcasm. So whose bright idea was it to foster chaos by suggesting that those in limbo simply shoulder their bags? Somewhere between fiction and hostility lies this charming diplomatic gem that says, in essence: 'We see you, but please leave.'
