Davey Johnson: Twice a World Champ, Once Helpful in Dying

Davey Johnson, the baseball world’s version of a two-time champion and part-time traffic cop, passed away last Friday. This wasn’t some weekend warrior—Johnson played second base for the Baltimore Orioles during their World Series wins (because obviously, defense matters), then switched over to managing the New York Mets to their 1986 World Series title, an event still smugly bragged about by Mets fans who think ’86 was the last time ESPN wasn’t showing reruns. His nickname might as well have been 'Mr. Twice the Champion,' proving that once is good but twice sells better. Also serves as a reminder that even legends like Johnson eventually punch out, much to our collective sigh.
