Connecticut Towing Law: Return Your $1,000 Wheels, Maybe By February

Connecticut Towing Law: Return Your $1,000 Wheels, Maybe By February

In a stunning 100-year-old tradition, Connecticut’s DMV, led by Commissioner Tony Guerrera, gathered a 10-member super squad—including three towing company owners and two consumer advocates—to fix a law where tow trucks kept money meant for car owners. Since May's legislation (good bipartisan vibes!), towing companies can sell cars after 15 days but must hold proceeds for a year (if you're lucky). Problem: DMV never set up a system to track that cash, and owners often vanish like magic tricks, especially when they buy a car but forget to register it. Towing owners squabble over 'valuations' under $1,500, while DMV dreams of portals like those fancy online dance classes for DMV paperwork. This dream team must report back by February, hopefully with less towing chaos and more money for people who just want their dang $1,000 rides back without accruing fees galore.
