Jenrick’s Hotel Empire: Building Walls With Lobbies
Photo by xiaoyu xie on Unsplash
Robert Jenrick, who barely settled into his 2022 role as migration minister, casually bragged about out-hotel-ing Suella Braverman and Priti Patel by "procure[ing] even more" hotels for asylum seekers. According to Jenrick’s own Sky News cameo, November is "historically... one of the highest months" for migrants crossing the Channel, so naturally he went full lobbyist, not politician, expanding the very system he now calls out. Politics is basically Monopoly, except Jenrick is accusing the other players of sneaky hotel tactics while bragging about owning Boardwalk twice over.
