About 600 CDC staff working in health stats, injury prevention, congressional outreach, and HR were told Friday they’re fired—only for over half to get a "sorry wrong number" call after a mysterious "coding error." Thanks to Trump’s mass layoffs, the National Center for Injury Prevention lost 132 people including grant admins, science award judges, and congressional policy buffs, despite Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again" startup tapping into the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Unions are suing over the "unlawful abuse of power" while CDC ethics cops and the ‘disease detectives’ Epidemic Intelligence Service narrowly escaped the ax.
