In 'Bugonia,' Emma Stone plays Michelle Fuller, a pharma CEO abducted by conspiracy theorist Teddy (Jesse Plemons), who’s convinced she’s an alien — a theory involving head-shaving, painful tests, and a ludicrous bomb strapped to Teddy himself. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the man behind 'The Lobster,' the film ends with Fuller admitting she's been on Earth since dinosaurs roamed, genetically tinkering with humans (including Teddy's mother, played by Alicia Silverstone, for reasons unclear since it 'failed'). The moonlit finale: Fuller vaporizes humanity using a giant bubble over a desk model before viewers see humans drop mid-toast, mid-podcast, mid-life. Lanthimos insists the mass extinction is 'hopeful,' endorsing the reboot by death via closet travel and bombs. Because nothing says optimism like cosmic genocide with a gentle touch.
