Australia and PNG’s ‘Refresh’ Makes Defences 'Hand in Glove', Somehow

In an epic 2025 glow-up, Australia and Papua New Guinea are so tight now their defence forces might as well be conjoined twins. Deputy PM Richard Marles confessed their security ‘refresh’ — started with a handshake in January — snowballed into a monster agreement just in time for PNG’s 50th independence anniversary. PNG’s defence minister Billy Joseph apparently can’t stop hyping this duo-team-up, promising more joint operations and recruitment drives from PNG into the Australian Defence Force. Marles teased a ‘transformative’ pact that’s the soulmate of defence agreements worldwide, all while slyly leaving PM Albanese to drop the official mic soon. Plot twist: ‘hand in glove’ sounds way more romantic than military drills, but frankly, we’re here for it.
