Atlassian CEO: More Coders Needed, Vibe Coding Is Not Skynet

Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes just dropped a reality check on October 2025's hottest tech panic: despite AI vibe coding attempts, his Aussie-American juggernaut is hiring more humans, not fewer. With 13,813 full-time employees in June (a neat 14% uptick!), they onboarded 95 new grads in Feb 2025 and plan on 108 more in 2026. Mike insists that 'core technologists' aren’t out of a job just ’cause some finance bros are vibin’ their way through code. He mused that engineers will be busy cranking out both 'crap' and 'good' tech ideas as new innovations pop, implying AI can’t yet out-hipstercode the newbies. Even other vibe coding cheerleaders like Windsurf’s Varun Mohan and OpenAI’s Bob McGrew admit engineers still debug the human mess AI can’t handle (yet). Meanwhile, the world watches engineers stay employed like it’s a limited edition NFT.
