AT&T’s $177M Oops: Data Leaks for Your Wallet's Sake
AT&T, apparently moonlighting as a data-leaking authority, spilled millions of customer secrets across the dark web starting in 2019 and again via a third-party cloud space in 2022. After denying any wrongdoing (classic), it quietly agreed in 2024 to cough up $177 million to soothe the ruffled feathers: $149 million for the first mess and $28 million for round two. Customers could claim up to $7,500 if they can weirdly 'prove losses' from calls and whatever else got out there. Claims close December 17, or you can skip out by November 17 and keep suing like it’s a sport. Texas courts get to grunt through final approval in January 2026. AT&T stays "committed to protecting data" — a phrase now almost sweetly ironic.
