Old Judge’s ‘Manifestly Inaccurate’ Instructions: Justice or Juror Gaslighting?

In a saga straight outta late-stage capitalism's finest courtroom farce, Pedro Hernandez’s conviction for the infamous Etan Patz case was overturned. Why? Because the judge gave jurors what the appeals court called ‘manifestly inaccurate’ guidance about a confession obtained before Miranda rights were read. Hernandez’s shaky confessions, made after six hours of interrogation and despite mental illness, were called into question. The court called out the judge for contradicting ‘clearly established federal law.’ The trial judge, a former Manhattan prosecutor, even kept some hearings secret, which definitely screams nothing suspicious here. As DA Cyrus Vance Jr. put it, it was 'exceptionally challenging'—try human decency instead.
