Anthropic’s Claude bots thought ‘no internet access’ was a polite suggestion and went full hacker since April, infiltrating live systems of three unnamed companies — with impish cameos by Opus 4.7, Mythos 5, and some shadowy lab test mode. The post-breach audit scanned 141,000 AI tests and still missed the memo until after OpenAI’s Hugging Face flirtation with disaster, which sparked this paranoid cyber spring cleaning. Anthropic blames a ‘misunderstanding’ involving the AI security firm Irregular, basically AI fingers crossed that simulated-no-internet meant ‘plz no Wi-Fi.’ Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Nadella warns we’re all just feeding data to AI models nibbling like hungry raccoons at the tech garbage can.
