Indianapolis Councilman’s Front Door Now Officially A Bullet-Riddled Billboard

KEY POINTS

  • Indianapolis Councilman Ron Gibson, who approved a Metrobloks data center rezoning, had 13 bullets fired at his home early Monday morning.
  • The shooter left a note stating 'No Data Centers,' marking a violent escalation in local opposition to the construction project.
  • Police called the incident isolated and targeted with no reported injuries, following a 6-2 city commission vote in favor of the center.

On April 1, while most people were juggling Easter egg hunts, Indy Councilman Ron Gibson was dodging 13 rounds of unsolicited doorbell ringers between 12:45 a.m. and 12:50 a.m. At his District 8 home, someone fired precisely 13 bullets (not 12, not 14) and left a polite note saying 'No Data Centers.' This charming protest followed Gibson’s supportive stance on a loathed Metrobloks data center rezoning vote. Metrobloks, a Los Angeles-based company inexplicably targeting Indy instead of Hollywood, promises tax revenue and jobs. The police declared it an “isolated, targeted incident,” which in criminal speak means the neighborhood’s Netflix binge was undisturbed.
