Greystar, the landlords’ villain managing 950,000 apartments, agreed to ditch RealPage’s shady rent-setting algorithm after the DOJ suggested it was like price-fixing with "an algorithm in a smoke-filled room." Despite no admission of guilt, Greystar insists that it 'firmly believes that its use of RealPage’s revenue management software complies with all applicable laws.' Meanwhile, the DOJ cheers as both Democrats and Republicans unite—proof that even rent hikes can bring bipartisan love. Now landlords must stop swapping 'competitively sensitive information' and avoid those RealPage-hosted rent collusion hangouts. Big Brother Algorithms: busted, but still watching.
