Amazon Axes MGM Stars, Hires Robots for Prime Time Drama
Amazon's blockbuster evisceration hit MGM Studios on the same sad Tuesday they announced 14,000 layoffsâbecause nothing says 'cut costs' like slashing casting heads like Donna Rosenstein and execs Meggie Choi and Nathan Kitada. Meanwhile, Peter Friedlander, ex-Netflix exec and part-time chaos agent, is running the TV show party after Vernon Sanders and Jen Salke fled. Amid the bloodbath, Prime Video's batting for AI, with Albert Cheng promoting himself to AI czar and Mike Hopkins leading the arm wrestling match between humans and algorithms. In June, Amazon invested money no one asked for in AI startup Fable Studio, hoping users will conjure shows while the humans get shown the door.
