Amazon’s Nuclear Neighborhood: Powering 770,000 Homes & Ego

Amazon, aka the company that can deliver your socks faster than you can blink, now wants to power 770,000 homes through its Cascade Advanced Energy Facility near Richland, Washington. Teaming up with Energy Northwest, the utilities consortium nobody knew had clout, they’re dreaming up 12 advanced modular nuclear reactors by the early 2030s. The first phase — a 320-megawatt slice of this radioactive pie — will make old-school nuclear plants look like sprawling estates by squeezing the whole thing into a few city blocks. Construction’s a distant dream, not starting until decade’s end, but hey, 100 permanent jobs and 1,000 construction gigs sound like a grounded fairy tale.
