Amazon Finally Puts Alexa Online, Because Apps Weren't Confusing Enough
KEY POINTS
- •Amazon announced Alexa Plus with a revamped voice assistant during a launch event in February 2025.
- •For months, Alexa.com redirected to an informational page, frustrating users hoping for a web interface.
- •On December 16, 2025, some users accessed a new web portal featuring chatbot functionality and smart home controls.
In an inspired move that screamed 'Why didn’t we think of this sooner?', Amazon finally pulled the veil back on Alexa.com, the official website for Alexa Plus, launching way back in February 2025 with all the subtlety of a virtual assistant waking you up at 7:03 AM on a weekend. Until mid-December 2025, this URL was basically nothing more than a smug redirect serving info pages like a digital 'we’re working on something' bulletin. But on December 16, users, including yours truly, suddenly got a glimpse of Alexa Plus’s browser-based chatbot interface, complete with a large blue-and-white page tactfully greeting Jen (not you, reader, sorry). This brand-new login-required site mirrors the Alexa app but now offers smart home controls—because adding complexity to something already complicated is definitely a user-friendly gesture. Nobody asked for their fridge’s temperature on a browser, but Amazon’s got you covered anyway.
