Alaska Vetoes Schools, Sends Kids Back to the Ice Age

So let me get this straight—Alaska's schools are literally falling apart with leaky roofs and moldy bathrooms, and lawmakers politely promise to 'raise a little bit of Cain' but only muster $40 million of the $800 million needed. Then Governor Dunleavy swoops in like a budget hurricane and vetoes nearly $28 million more, explaining, 'Basically, we don’t have enough money to pay for all of our obligations.' Because, of course, relying on oil money is as reliable as a snowman in July. Meanwhile, future generations get renovated education budgets about as often as they see a summer without a blizzard.
