Silicon Valley’s hiring spree got a makeover, starring engineers as 55% of all new hires — up from 46% in 2019 — according to SignalFire’s latest data. Meanwhile, design jobs took a nosedive by 48%, product managers vanished by 39%, and marketing got slashed by over a third since pre-pandemic days. Even though engineers are down 11%, they’re still the biggest fish in this tech hiring pond, because apparently, design and marketing roles are just not smart enough for AI’s chess game. And all this under the shadow of a leaner org chart that’s basically a coding gladiator arena with fewer snacks backstage. AI isn’t here to replace humans — just to rearrange who's awkwardly hired next to it.
