FAA Declares Your Power Bank A Flying Molotov Cocktail
The FAA dropped a spicy new safety memo urging airlines to keep lithium-battery devices painfully visible, because apparently your power bank might spontaneously combust mid-air like a toddler with a sparkler. Since January, 50 lithium battery incidents triggered smoke, fire, or heat hotter than an exās mixtape. Southwest banned charging these incendiary gizmos in bags after a charger smoked and forced an emergency diversionānot exactly the in-flight entertainment anyone booked. Meanwhile, Emirates goes full party pooper with rules starting October 1: no charging, seat pockets only. These crackdowns follow an Air Busan fire in South Korea that left 27 injured and a plane BBQād. On top of that, the FAA is throwing $300,000 fines at companies sneaking undisclosed lithium batteries in shipments because why not add some corporate terror to the mix?
