In a plot twist worthy of a spy novel, Russian lawmaker Alexei Zhuravlev announced that Mother Russia sent shiny new Pantsir-S1 and Buk-M2E air defense systems to Venezuela in late October, via a sanctioned cargo airline with an Ilyushin Il-76 plane so shady even the US Treasury has it on speed dial. Apparently, Venezuela's upgrade from Soviet-era Pechora-2Ms to Pantsir-S1s is their version of trading in a Nokia 3310 for an iPhone 15 in the face of US naval stunt doubles called USS Gerald R. Ford and company. Russia is even flirting with sending ballistic missiles like Oreshnik and Kalibr—because nothing says Caribbean vacation like a miniature apocalypse. Trump reacted by downplaying war chances while simultaneously threatening direct attacks, keeping confusion as Venezuela’s new favorite export.
