James Van Der Beek, best known for brooding over a creek in the ’90s, sadly died at 48 after a three-year bout with colorectal cancer. His wife Kimberly launched a GoFundMe aiming for $1 million by February 2026 — the fund raised $598,000 by 7:30 p.m. the night after his death to cover medical bills and bills for 6 kids (yes, six). Despite being a TV heartthrob, Van Der Beek had to auction memorabilia from Dawson’s Creek last December because apparently, chemo doesn’t come free in Hollywood. GoFundMe promised careful fund management — in case you thought it’d all end up in a smoothie bar.
