Meet Liu Shengyu, DeepSeek’s engineer who’s simultaneously the hero and soon-to-be victim of his own AI code. In a viral WeChat blog titled 'I Have No Choice but to Bury My Talent in Yesterday,' Liu admits he’s crafting GPU kernels so good even his AI versions might beat him at his favorite video game–I mean, job. He compares giving up hand-crafted code to a knitter crushed by knitting machines roaring louder than raindrops outside his window. Liu fears AI will steal his hands-on work, turning him into an AI whisperer who must look on while bots do all the cool stuff. He even equated letting Anthropic control frontier AI with Hitler getting nukes first—yes, really. Cue sobbing over an apartment he rented for just a year but, apparently, could out-cry every final season of your favorite TV show.
