US Navy’s Double-Tap Self-Crash: Sea Hawk Meets Super Hornet
In a 'routine operation' that somehow sounds like a plot twist from a Navy vs. Gravity reality show, the MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter from the 'Battle Cats' squadron took an involuntary plunge into the South China Sea at 2:45pm Sunday, courtesy of the USS Nimitz. Just 30 minutes later, the F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter, repping the 'Fighting Redcocks' of VFA-22, decided to crash the same party at 3:15pm — also departing from our favorite aircraft carrier, Nimitz. Both crews (three for the Hawk, two for the Hornet) managed to eject safely and were fished out by Carrier Strike Group 11, who must be tired of saving pilots from their own machines. Investigations are ongoing, because even your toaster gets a manual before it fries your bread.
